A gully grating is simply a slotted cover over a drainage channel. It sounds simple. But the wrong choice brings real problems – flooding in rain, pedestrians slipping, bicycle wheels getting caught, or even the grating collapsing into the channel. These aren't rare occurrences.

First, the material must hold up.
Gratings endure vehicles, foot traffic, and weather day after day. Weak materials deform or crack within years.
SOLID uses ductile iron, grade no lower than QT500-7. Tensile strength above 500MPa, elongation no less than 7%. Heavy trucks roll over without causing deformation. Freeze-thaw cycles don't cause cracking. Not all cast iron is ductile iron. Every SOLID grating undergoes material inspection, with nodularity reaching Grade 3 or above – guaranteed toughness.
Second, the load rating must match the application.
Sidewalks, residential roads, urban highways, ports – the loads vary enormously. Under-specify and it fails. Over-specify, and you waste money.
SOLID strictly follows EN 124 standards: A15 for sidewalks and green belts, B125 for cycle paths and driveways, C250 for roadside drainage, D400 for urban highways, E600 for ports and industrial zones, F900 for airport aprons. Every grating carries a clear marking – load capacity is transparent. No vague claims. No overstatement.
Third, the bar spacing must be right.
Too wide – high heels get trapped, bicycle wheels jam. Too narrow – water drains slowly and debris clogs quickly.
SOLID's gully gratings have bar clearances between 25mm and 32mm – balancing drainage capacity with safety. The anti-slip pattern is cast integrally, not welded on afterwards, so it won't wear off.
Fourth, corrosion protection must be thorough.
Gratings are exposed year-round to rain, de-icing salts, vehicle oils, and UV rays – each taking its toll.
Every SOLID grating is shot-blasted before coating to remove scale, then treated with bitumen or epoxy. The coating has strong adhesion, resists salt spray and moisture, and lasts more than twice as long as ordinary coatings.
Fifth, dimensions must be compatible.
On-site mismatches between grating and frame are a common headache. SOLID supplies matching frames and supports with precise dimensions – drop-in installation without on-site modification. Cushioning gaskets between frame and grating reduce metal-on-metal noise and minimize wear from long-term vibration.
